NEWS

Hey, class of 2010 Bobcat families! It’s now 2010 and we thought we should bring you up to date on a few happenings for our 5th grade class.

ACTIVITIES

There are several activities related specifically to 5th graders. Please check our YB website for our soon-to-be-active 5th grade link. You’ll have details on each as the date gets closer, but here is a bit on what’s ahead:

1. LVUSD Outdoor Education: March 15-19, 2010

Saturday, January 23, 2010 @ 11:00 AM is the District’s Outdoor Education 5th Gr. Parent Meeting, King Gillette Ranch, 26800 West Mulholland Highway, Calabasas  91302

Adults only, please.

Carpooling would be helpful as there will be parents from four other LVUSD elementary schools attending this meeting.

The total cost per child $320 (though the district paperwork earlier indicated $300), which covers everything for the week. Outdoor Education is a LVUSD program.

2. End of Year Party
We expect the 5th grade party will take place at Camp Keystone on Monday, June 14th.  This 5th grade celebration has become a much-loved Bobcat tradition. The students will come to school as usual, and will be taken to and from the park on buses. Supervision is provided by Keystone, and the teachers will be there as well. This is a kids-only event – Keystone has asked that parents do not attend.

3. Rite of Passage
Tuesday, June 15, 2010 @9:00am in the YB MPR. Further details on the end-of-year, end of elementary career, will follow.

4. Miscellaneous
Yerba Buena’s other 5th grade “perks” include a yearbook signing/popsicle party. And finally, as you know from information that came home (we hope!) separately from the Bobcat Yearbook committee, there will also be an opportunity to purchase a space for a special tribute to your child that will appear in our yearbook.
It’s a special time for us to enjoy experiencing our 5th graders last year in primary school. Wasn’t it just yesterday they were in Kindergarten?  So, while we savor the moment, you may wonder: how do we pay for any expenses related to the above (namely #s 2, 3 and 4)?

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES / FUNDRAISING

Good news: we’ve already been really busy!

1. Holiday Grams
So many of you helped with and participated in our holiday gram sales so far (BOO Grams for Halloween, Holiday Grams for the December holidays) - we are so grateful and off to a good start. Huge thanks to all those of you who helped and participated, and a special thanks to Kelly Armstrong and Chris Eckert.

We’ll be selling more holiday grams – next up is our Valentine Gram sale.  You’ll be seeing an email soon to sign up to help selling.  Thanks so much to any and all who can volunteer!

2. See’s Candy
We had a successful See’s holiday sale – helping keep the chocoholics (and others, we hope) satisfied while we raise 5th grade $$.  Many thanks to all those who purchased See’s candy for the holidays.

Marla Fisher has been heading up our See’s sales – way to go, Marla!

We’re selling See’s candy sale for Valentine’s Day, too.  See your flyers coming home or the link attached to the Bobcat Blast.

3. After School Pizza

Soon we’ll be starting a pizza sale immediately after school (both dismissal times). This is likely to be on Fridays, probably most weeks – weather permitting.

Many thanks to Tracy Friedl for getting this going! You’ll be seeing an email to sign up to help with this, soon, too.

4. Yearbook/5th grade ads

Any revenue for ads you place to honor and celebrate your 5th grader helps towards 5th grade end-of-year expenses. All ads and payment are due Friday, February 12.

5th Grade Yearbook Ad and Baby Pictures Flyer

Kudos to Chris Eckert for her amazing yearbook work!

5. Rite of Passage

I
f you’d like to help planning for the school-end 5th grade ceremony at YB  - soliciting donations for food & beverage items, decorating, etc., please let us know! We’ll need plenty of help!  More details on this will follow.

6. Parent/family contribution

If our other fundraising efforts run short, we’ll have to ask each family to contribute a specific amount to cover our expenses. We’re hoping this may not be necessary, or, if it is necessary, will be minimal.

Any and all participation in our efforts over the year will help make this as easy as possible for all. Thank you so much!

We have a great group of students. Thank you so much in advance for helping to make their final year @YB as memorable as possible!
Please let me know if you 1) would like to help with anything specific or 2) have any suggestions or 3) have any questions.

Thank you! Go Bobcat Class of 2010!
